The title pretty much sums it up. How do you guys feel about the rich particually celeberties and film stars. I know a lot of people tend to hate the rich and I think that is a little unfair. I understand that people can be envious of the rich but I don't understand the hate. I know that money rarely comes without hard work and dedication so why do we hate these people?
For example one of the most ridiculed and hated person on the planet is Paris Hilton. Is it because of the sex tape? No. It is because she is rich and she dosen't have to lift a finger for the rest of her life. She has been called a leech, a spoiled brat and a few other words that I can't say on the forum. However there is one thing that most people wouldn't think to call her: The Americian dream. The Americian dream was to work hard and build a good life for your family and so that your children won't have to work as hard. Well that is pretty much the hilton family. In a weird way I respect Paris Hilton. She is so rich she could lie on a beach and not have to lift a finger for the rest of her life. She dosn't have to work but she chooses to. She acts, sings and does other things because she wants to make her own way and dosn't want to live in the shadow of her parents. I kind of admire that.
I feel that we turned our back on the americian dream and resent anyone who has achieved it. Well that's my opinion what is yours?

What a bizarre post.
There are many reasons to hate specific rich people but I doubt anyone hates them for simply having money... envy might be more common.
In the case of Paris Hilton it's hard to see what she does as work. She doesn't seem to have aspire to any acting ability and she's doesn't seem all too dedicated to her craft as a musician-- it mostly seems like an artless grab for attention. I might say I feel bad that she doesn't have more positive influences in her life but I don't admire her and I don't think she's the embodiment of the American dream.
I'm trying my best to be polite here but... what a weird post.

Well it could be that she is still trying to find her carear choice. She is still fairly young and is just trying to find her place in the world.
In regards to my post being weird yeah it kind of is. I've never considered myself to be a normal person but then again I never wanted to be. I came up with the idea for the topic after reading a topic about charlie sheen. A lot of employees seem to hate him and think that he should pay their mortage because now they are out of work. A lot of the people commenting seemed to hate him because he is rich.

Paris Hilton is an idiot. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ej6LYlpgpGIAnyone who is so willfully ignorant as to not even know what Walmart is, is not worthy a single ounce of my respect. And she's not trying to find her footing, she's trying to be more famous. Everything she does is to get her face and name out there. Thank God the world got tired of her.

Hating and resenting are different concepts and I think the latter more aptly defines how people feel about Paris Hilton's wealth, but her actions are what make her hated. I am 1 day older than Paris and am in the process of a career change and trying to find my place in the world, but I have still made plenty of contributions to society. There are plenty of rich people who do not live their lives with a sense of entitlement.
There is really no way to answer this thread post. Are there rich people who I hate? Yes. Do I hate them simply because they are rich? No. Are there rich people who I respect? Yes. Do I respect them simply because they are rich? No.

Yes perhaps hate is a strong term. I knew some people back in high school and I'm sure there are a lot of people who are ok with piricy and stealing movies because the people making them are rich. Not everyone involved in a movie or tv show is rich. If I ever end up directing a movie I know I want to put right before the credits "if you stole this movie these are the people you are stealing from" and roll the credits.

As is often the case, it depends. It depends both on how the wealth was acquired and how that wealth is used. I do hate to see rich people waste their money on frivolous things, but in a free society, no one should be denied deny the right to do so.

I do hate to see rich people waste their money on frivolous things, but in a free society, no one should be denied deny the right to do so. Oh, this one hurts. I hate when people waste a companies resources on frivolous things. For example, I used to be a courier and part of what we did was deliver food for a high end catering company. There's a local pharmaceutical company, I'll say the name, KV Pharmaceutical, who fired several hundred people over the last couple years since the economic down turn and they still, to this day, order lunches from that company that cost hundreds of dollars per day! They could have kept dozens of people on the payroll for what they waste on over-priced sandwiches. People are so stupid with company money. Don't get me started on how bank executives waste money using the couriers...

I would particually agree with you there vulpix but I try my best not to hate anyone. Bill Gates has enough money to start his own small country but he never let it go to his head. He dosn't spend a lot and actually donates tons to charity so he is a very deserving person not to mention the fact that he easily put in the time and hard work to make that money.
Yes some people spend money on stupid things like cars they may never use or clothes they may only wear once. But then again a wise man once said: "Let he who is without needless spending cast the first squirril." We have all bought something we didn't need or something that is now just sitting on a shelf somewhere rarely used. The only difference between us and them is they have more money and therefore they can buy bigger things. On an overall ratio however they don't spend much more then us.
