Actor Corey Haim has died of a supposed drug overdose. He was 38. Not that I was a huge fan, and I realize that he became something of a mess as he got older, but I will always remember him in the film "Lucas," in which he turned in a very solid performance and basically carried the weight of an entire film on his shoulders at the tender age of 15. There are actors in their 20s and 30s that can't do that (Orlando Bloom, for instance), so for him to be able to do that so effectively speaks volumes about his talent as an actor. With so many jokes flying around about him, I thought I'd go ahead and say something nice.

Urge...to make...joke...overwhelming...
I guess we'll never get that sequel to License to Drive that I was so hoping for.
There, that wasn't too bad...
When I was a kid in middle school I freaking loved License to Drive and The Lost Boys. I do have to say that it freaked me out to see him once he got older because age hit him like a ton of bricks. But I guess he was a perfect case of 'it's not the years, it's the milage'.

Well, mileage and years upon years of drug use. You know, I'm starting to think there might be something to this whole "child actors will always develop problems" thing.

As big of a tragic joke as he became, I will always remember him as being a huge part of my childhood. I first noticed him in Murphy's Romance. It was my mom's favorite movie in the 80s and, even though I was too young to really understand it, I watched it with her every time she put it on because I identified with the kid struggling for a father figure. Then came License to Drive, which brought me endless joy and later Blown Away, which came out just as I was entering puberty and I still remember feeling really embarrassed to ask my grandma to tape it off of HBO and even more embarrassed to watch it. RIP Corey. May you have an endless supply of prescription meds to get you through the afterlife.
