I have not watched the South Park that Tyler and David discussed on episode 224, but I like hearing them fight the cynicism that is prevalent in the movie nerd community. In fact, they echoed the same sentiments I shouted at my Ipod while listening to Josh Fadem on the Summer Movie Preview BP supplement. In that episode, Fadem was the cynical asshole incarnate. I have enjoyed him on previous episodes and I don't know what his problem was that day, but I may not listen to the next episode he guests on.

Yeah, that was a rather irritating episode to listen to, for while he occasionally made a few good points, it was largely undermined by an incredibly negative attitude based on very little beyond a distrust of studios and actors, and diluting his arguments into mocking characters and titles that was largely immature.
I can certainly understand being wary (and weary) of movies you haven't seen and special effects, but when it becomes (at the risk of using harsh words) a prejudice, I find that incredibly annoying. I'm actually perfectly OK with someone being negative about something and again, Josh occasionally raised a few good points, but his general attitude (which he seemed aware of as a bummer) really undermined a lot of his stronger cases. Other shows he showed a rich love and deep knowledge of movies, but this time around he acted as if (and this may be an oversimplification) movies couldn't be good unless very specific criteria were met (a lot of "don'ts" and "nots" in there. I also don't like the incredulousness (which, according to the spellcheck, is not a word), he demonstrates, as well as gagging sounds, when someone mentions a movie they like but he doesn't.
Overall, I don't think that David is a cynic, but he does rush to judgment a little soon some times. Still, I always appreciate that he's willing to have an open mind, yet is also smart enough to simply avoid things he doesn't think he'll care for. True that might mean he might miss good stuff, but at the same time, when you reach a level of knowledge, you have an eye for certain things.
As for the South Park episode: very good, I highly recommend it. Amusingly, Stan's tries to put away his cynicism, only to find he can't during a screening of X-Men: First Class (and he couldn't even get past the trailers...)
