Howdy. I'm Mike. I hail from up north - that would be Toronto, Canada. Been a BP listener for more than two years now. Love the podcast. Tyler and David have great chemistry and their discussions, especially their artist spotlight, are a treat. Just wanted to say hi and keep up the great work!

I'm Alex. I'm an AV/IT Analyst at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Avid BP listener for about a year, favorite thing about the podcast is that Tyler and David don't have identical views on art or politics, but can disagree and discuss in an enlightened fashion.

Hey. I'm Gustaf and I hail from sort of up and then to the side kinda... Sweden to be more precise. A history major and a film snob. Been listening to the podcast since your first appearence on the /Filmcast and since then BP is my favourite movie Podcast and definitely one of my favourites overall. It's also one of the most intellectual podcasts out there, as well as a very funny one.

Call me Dugan. First heard about you guys on the /filmcast. Been enjoying your show, finally caught up with all of your back episodes last summer while I was working in the yard and painting the house. I've been an avid film watcher for years and I have enjoyed many of your recommendations on recent films, since I tend to trend towards older films.
Keep up the good work and don't ever do that podcast on Westerns!!!

Hey. I'm Stephanie. I live in Birmingham, Alabama where Hollywood doesn't care if we see good films or not. The Randomizer loves me. I have no idea how long I've been listening.

Well, as my name suggests, I am the captain of a yacht in the Caribbean (currently anchored for the night off a tiny island named Marina Cay). Battleship Pretension has kept me snobby about movies for about a year now, and has been an incredibly welcoming distraction and a reminder that there is still culture (and even movie theatres!) out in the rest of the world. Thanks for helping my mind think critically for an hour every week.

I'm Marc, I'm living in South Korea the last few years. My background is in academic film study and I enjoy the podcast because it allows me to enjoy the kind of conversations about film I don't get the chance to have as often over here. Been listening for around a couple of years.

Jillian from Long Beach. I discovered BP when a search for any podcast about movies lead me to a show where Tyler and David were guesting. I found them more interesting than the show so I decided to try theirs instead. Honestly, in the beginning I very judgmentally ruled Tyler out based on his several mentions of his religious beliefs (I’m an Atheist) and wasn’t sure how long I’d stick around. However, the next episode I listened to featured a discussion on how there is no way to experience a movie without bringing yourself into it and I greatly appreciated how conscious Tyler is of this and I now find myself agreeing with him much more than David.
I really love how self reflective they are about most topics. Sure, they sometimes agree on how bad something is and very casually dismiss it with an air of conceit, but who doesn’t rag on something that way when everyone speaking is in agreement? Their style of debating things is generally so reasonable that I have found myself second guessing many things I always held true. (Maybe Christian Bale’s accents are too affected!)
My favorite part of the podcast is when they slip in personal details because that is what makes it feel like I am just listening to a couple of my friends go on about movies. I love film, but am not a film major or real film snob so their episodes on the Hayes Code and Auteur Theory were entirely new and fascinating topics to me. And I can now hold my own with my friends who are snobby film majors.

Good question.
In what feels like a former life, I was a math major, and I am now working for the U.S. government in a field that won't allow me to get anymore specific than that. In addition to movies, I enjoy classical music, classic literature, long walks on the beach.... Wait, where is this headed?
I discovered the podcast through a link at the bottom of the front page on IMDb. At the time, I wasn't going to theaters often but I still liked movies, so I was looking for a podcast that dealt with movies in a broad, topical sense, and wasn't necessarily current. Battleship Pretension was perfect for that. I've been a fan ever since.
Regarding Jillian S' comment, I too am an atheist, but I wouldn't write anyone's film opinions off for being a theist. For me, it was actually very interesting hear Tyler's perspective, as every other movie podcast I can think of feature either nontheists or hosts who don't bring up their religious beliefs. Oddly enough, I too agree with Tyler quite often--moreso than any other podcast host I know of, in fact--even when it comes to religious films. I think that's a result of Tyler's fair-minded approach, something you don't necessarily always see with theists. (How many religious people do you know that will never watch or won't allow their children to watch a Harry Potter movie, for example?)
In any case, I've gone on too long. This is a good topic--it's nice to know who's listening!

The name's Eric and, let's get this out of the way, I am not a real doctor. But I am a listener... and a cinephile... and I enjoy pointing my camcorder at things that move. I live somewhere in New Jersey and don't like cheese.
I am a well intentioned Christian and what I've heard of More Than One Lesson so far has been really encouraging. It's equal parts entertaining and informative. It's a real pleasure that such a relevant podcast even exists, so... keep up the good work!

Hi, I'm Brett from Lancaster Pennsylvania. I'm a twenty year old, a student of film, and a projectionist. Since my manager recommended this podcast for it's light hearted film discussions and comic appeal, I've been faithfully listening for a year. I occasionally tune in to Tylers podcast when I've seen the selected film. I'm a total film snob, but not an asshole. My favorite aspect of filmmaking is creative and innovative style through cinematography (by the way, im still confused how Basterds wasn't taken more seriously for the oscar). I consider a movie collection (or netflix list) a growing work of art that represents it's owner. I love noirs, Billy Wilder, Woody Allen, Wes Anderson, QT, Kurosawa, Godard, Fellini, Dassin, Guy Ritchie, Lang, Truffaut, and innumerable other filmmakers. Thank you for taking the time to entertain and educate the listener.

Im Ray, 23 years old and I live in Adelaide, South Australia. I am a university student, and a film lover. I spend my time split between work, uni work and, arguably most importantly, film which in this case is the film club at my uni and my website www.cinematicrevue.com. Having listened to Tyler and David since mid last year I have been inspired to start my own podcast with friends about movies. Great to see a bunch of people from around the world on this forum, and hope to get into many a discussion about film.

I guess I should do one of these things... My name is Jason, I live in Missouri on the outskirts of St. Louis and I've been listening to Tyler and David since July/August of 2009 and I've been trying to catch up on back episodes. I'm an old man (31 ) with a family, a wife and 2 sons. I have a crap job but luckily my wife worked hard and got 2 college degrees and makes up for my lack of motivation. My one great love outside of my family is the cinema. There's no place I'd rather be than in the movie theater, but thanks to HDTVs and my PS3 home entertainment is getting pretty decent at keeping up with the theater. I love every type of film, my favorite film of all time is 8 1/2 (I enjoy it much more than Citizen Kane! ). But, like most movie nuts, I have a rotating selection of movies that serves as my current favorites. Right now I love Zombieland and Up, I literally cannot get enough of these two movies. I've also been cycling through a ton of cult films on my Netflix queue. I've typed too much, but I love the show Tyler (does David ever read this stuff? ), keep up the great work.

Might as well do this, as a new member.
I'm Josh, 25, and a long-time listener. I'm originally from Western New York, now in Phoenix, Arizona. I've been listening since the first BP appearance on /Film, and I still remember how surprised I was that David so despised State of Play, and then I thought more about the film and kind of agreed.
I love the show, and the many funny/insightful/smart guests the show's had. Keep up the great work, fellas!

I am not a heavy-duty film nerd, but am a fan of smart podcasts, and BP qualifies.

Hey, I'm Rory and I'm a student at Oxford University in the UK and as the cinemas there are only so so BP informs my DVD rental and I save the new releases for when I'm at home.
I heard about you guys from On The Page and was just so glad to hear you hated Juno, since then (I guess a year ago) I've been enjoying the podcasts and quoting them to my friends while failing to give you credit. Uh, don't hold that against me.
I too judged Tyler, the Catholic in me felt a need to side with David, but I've come around and particularly like the fact that Tyler seems to do the more consistent preparation. There seems to be a lot of episodes where David endearingly fails to bring/write his list.
Anyway, nice forum and bring BP live on tour to the UK sooner rather than later.
