Hey, I'm Lennart, a recently graduated high school student from Ottawa, Canada. So recently graduated, I wrote my last high school exam about eight hours ago. I've been listening to BP since, I believe, May/June-ish of 2009 (or perhaps earlier, I can't be sure). I remember I heard the words 'battleship pretension' mentioned once or twice on Never Not Funny but I think I was encouraged to look them up when I read about them on maximumfun.org. In any case, I liked it plenty and have been listening ever since. I ashamed to admit I have to concur with those who've said that they had some prejudice against Tyler's religious views as atheists (particularly as I lived/remain living in my religious household) but, like them, I've also been proven so wrong I truly do feel I owe Tyler an apology (as odd as that sounds as I didn't let him know that in any way). The show is tremendous. I can remember exactly what got me into films specifically... I know I began watching more "unknown" films (at least among my teenage peers) via the internets around the same time as I began listening to BP and both interests sort of fed each other and I have seen more films in the past year than I think I have in the 17 years prior. I was never really a 'film' guy or an 'art' guy. I enjoy writing and I've found it is much easier for me to critique dialogue than editing or cinematography. As I said, I just finished high school and I'll be studying Science (Chemistry Major) at university. While there though I think it might be nice to join a film club or something of that ilk. As well, as you can clearly tell by this point, I am really verbose and terrible at writing concisely. I apologize.

Hi, Juuke from Finland reporting here.
I currently go to film school and work part-time as a movie projectionist. I write a lot of things sometimes in English and sometimes in Finnish like poems, songs, screenplays or rants on forums. Well not really rants, I'm too nice. In the future I would like to be a writer-director, a poet and a professional musician. Hope one of these comes to pass.
As for my movie taste, it's relatively all over the map. But some of things I enjoy are satires, dark humor and good dialogue particularly when dialogue is used to build tension. Examples of these that also serve as some of my favorite movies of all time: Dr. Strangelove, Observe and Report (probably my favorite movie of last year) and All the President's Men.

Name: Tony
Age: 33
Home: Shoeburyness, Essex, England (35 miles from London)
Occupation: Househusband. Former stock manager for large independent record store (yes it was very similar to High Fidelity).
Marital Status: 5th Wedding Anniversary on January 5th. Had 2 weddings – English civil wedding in 16th century country house & an Indian Wedding.
Children: One 5 year old daughter called Xia.
Brief physical description: Short, balding, chubby, bearded, bespectacled & very hairy chested.
Favourites:
TV Shows: Frasier, The Simpsons, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Office (UK version), Extras, QI, Have I Got News For You, I Claudius, The Royle Family, Top Gear, Planet Earth, The Thick Of It, King Of The Hill.
Movies: LOTR Trilogy, The Empire Strikes Back, The Godfather 1 & 2, Citizen Kane, The Battle of Algiers, Manhattan, Rear Window, Lawrence of Arabia, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Fantasia, Sunset Blvd., All The President's Men.
Music: Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Neil Young, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Kate Bush, U2, Duke Ellington, Michael Jackson, Pearl Jam, Steely Dan.
Computer games: Social gamer, Wii sports at family/friend gatherings. Used to be Summer & Winter Games on the Commodore 64 in the 80’s.
Sport: Love watching all Sports when it’s a big international event (i.e. The Olympics, Soccer World Cup). Play cricket, tennis, table-tennis, snooker, darts, pool & bowling.
Turn Ons: Cuddling, big TV’s, funny women, drinking beer/chatting with friends on a hot summers day, watching old black & white movies on rainy days, playing in the snow, not working at weekends/public holidays, ice-cream, country walks, the natural beauty of our planet.
Turn Offs: Stupidity, greed, intolerance, religious fundamentalism, narcissism, the worship of talentless celebrities, Simon Cowell, daytime telly, Michael Bay, ‘comedies’ starring Will Ferrell, Ben Stiller & Adam Sandler.
No idea how I stumbled across Battleship Pretension but been listening for the last couple of years. Love the interplay between Tyler & David on any subject (enjoy the top of the show banter just as much as the main film discussion) & my only complaint is that guys seem constantly worried about going on too long whilst I'm always very happy for them to prattle on for longer (but maybe that's just me). Also really enjoy Tyler's More Than One Lesson podcast despite not being religious (give it a try non-believers).
Have no great personal talents for anything & never really had any work/financial ambitions. Very happy to plod along & spend as much quality time with my wife/daughter/family/friends as possible or doing voluntary charity/community work with my best friend – the local Vicar.
Beyond a big TV, a comfy sofa & bed (& a little home to house them in), not greatly interested in material things. Just collect DVD’s (& still some VHS) from charity shops/boot sales/cheap on Amazon.
That’s about it I think. Feel free to ask me anything you like (well, within reason).

Hey everyone, I'm Garrett. I live in Tulsa and work as a Graphic Designer. 28 years old.
I was a regular listener for a while, but I fell off all my podcasts about a year ago, and now I'm back into the show.
I'm a film lover of most genres. Compared to friends and family in my life I'm a full on film geek, but I'm sure there are plenty here who are far more knowledgeable than I. That's why I dig these guys, I want to know more and discuss film more.
Looking forward to future discussions about film with you guys.

I'm Seth and I hail from the Deep South, originally from Alabama but living in Tennessee (though I'd rather be back in Bama). I've only started listening to BP recently, though I heard about it from a friend a long time ago. I also plan to catch up on More Than One Lesson as soon as I can. I'm a sometimes musician, sometimes filmmaker, always procrastinating writer. My film tastes tend towards genre stuff. I don't know what else to say. If you want to see a film I directed (for the 48-Hour Film Project 2009), go here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMGisIWSVCk

Hi. I'm Sean, new listener. Really love it. Was looking for something like this for a while, then saw Paul F. Tompkins tweet that he was on the show, so I checked it out. Hooked since.
I live outside of NYC. I write a little. Grew up watching pretty much just "event" movies or whatever was on TV, have matured into more of a film person over the last 5-10 years.
Have been skipping around on past episodes. You guys should definitely make a shirt of Tyler's oft-repeated quote: "I like Sweeney Todd."

You guys should definitely make a shirt of Tyler's oft-repeated quote: "I like Sweeney Todd." I didn't realize that I said it that often. I don't recall the film coming up that much.

Hey guys! I wanted to introduce myself as one of the new bloggers for Battleship Pretension. My name is Daniel Bergamini and I have been writing for Tyler and David for about a month now. I will be posting weekly film reviews and write ups. If any of my posts anger you, you can direct that hate mail towards me and give Tyler and David a break. I am really happy to be part of this team as I have been listening to the podcast for the last two years. You can check out my film blog at thedeletedscene.wordpress.com. I look forward to hearing all of your feedback to my articles. Dan.

Heylo, my name is Mladen, I live in Perth Australia and between wasting time at work by listening to the BP podcast on my headphones, I make beats ( www.purgeaudit.com), & host a comic-book podcast ( www.extrasequential.com). I have a passion for comics, music, and of course, FILM, and these podcasts are great because its not always possible to have these kinds of conversations with colleagues or friends, and unlike the few times I've spoken to mates who have gone to film-school, David & Tyler aren't insufferable assholes to listen to. So there's that. Keep the podcasts coming!
