I thought I would start a thread for people to share any places or web sites that offer good DVD sales when they pop up.
I thought of this after I stopped at a Barnes and Noble today and took a look in the DVD section to find that all Criterion Collection DVDs were a whopping 50% off! The little film nerd inside me nearly fainted. I didn't go overboard and bankrupt myself but I did pick up Naked Lunch, Repulsion, and Onibaba. Unfortunatley they did not have all of the Criterion Collection that I would have liked to pick up (Pierrot Le Fou, Breathless, Le Samourai, etc.) but I looked online and saw they offer the same sale on the Barnes and Noble website, where they do have some of those films not in the store in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
I know I'm going to be tempted to go back soon before the sale ends because this is the best deal I've seen on what I consider the best company releasing DVDs today

I was going to mention the Criterion sale but it slipped my mind.
I got Francois Truffaut's "Antoine Doinel" collection for just 50 dollars and I'm considering getting Night Train to Munich depending on how long the sale's on!

This thread is just depressing me. I already spent way too much money on Riddler figures at Comic Con. I can't now go and buy bunch of Criterion movies, much as I may like to.

I watched Black Narcissus for the first on Netflix and it made me head back to Barnes and Noble to pick it up on DVD. Then I saw they added some movies from the Criterion Collection that were not there on my first trip so I ended up buying even more. Along with Black Narcissus I picked up The Seventh Seal, Brazil, Le Samourai, and The Red Shoes. I had never seen The Red Shoes (I still haven't gotten around to watching it) but I loved Black Narcissus so much (and also enjoyed Peeping Tom, another Michael Powell film) so I hope I enjoy it. It was between The Red Shoes and Breathless and I decided to give it a shot. This may sound stupid but the cover is so gorgeous that it may be worth the $20 just to stare at all day. Unfortunately the sale has ended but now I know where to go to get Criterion DVDs because before this sale I had only seen a few more well known films on sale at Best Buy.

I'm not sure where everyone's located but if you're in or around New York City head to the Barnes and Noble around Lincoln Center for a trove of Criterion titles and film lit.

Don't quote me on this but I heard that there will be another 50% off Criterion Collection sale at Barnes and Noble starting Nov 16th (the same day that Night of the Hunter is released by the way). Let's hope my sources are correct because there are plenty of great movies I'd love to own. Time to get your finances in order ladies and gentlemen.
