I tried to get creative with the title of this thread (it's supposed a play on the "last movie you saw" thread) but if it's more confusing than clever say so and I'll change it. Even I'm not sure whether or not whether it's a workable title (as you can see).
But anyway: the thread. I'm not sure exactly where you all stand on geek news, trailers, etc. I'm sure everyone's got their own line (I rarely look at set stills and don't stop to read casting rumors and I know our hosts have their opinion on the subject) but if you're a cinephile I'm sure you (at the very least) look forward to what your favorite directors, actors, and artists are making. Long way of saying: talk about what you're looking forward to in the film world.
I know this'll probably become more of a "coming attractions" thread but maybe you Pretension-ites can weigh in on my decision:
I've got a couple of recent releases I'm itching to watch and I'll be in the city on Tuesday seeing John Hodgman speak (excitement!). I'm pretty sure it'll end up being between Never Let Me Go and Buried. Never Let Me Go has some solid reviews and just seems like my sort of thing and Buried has equally positive reviews (if not stronger) and also seems like the conceptually inventive movie I'd be into. Anyone catch either movie yet or just have an opinion you'd like to share?
So yeah: is there anything flying under the radar we should look out for, are there any neat trailers we should watch, do you have any saliant rumors we should... read... about? Could I use anymore colons in one post? You know what to do, folks.

As far as new(ish) movies out right now, my wife and I are planning on seeing:
THE TOWN THE AMERICAN GOING THE DISTANCE (yeah, I know, it doesn't really seem like my kind of movie, but it's getting surprisingly good reviews)
Tonight, I'll be seeing Almodovar's Talk to Her for the first time, which I'm excited about.

For some reason I feel like you're all tired of hearing about my opinion of The American even though I can only recall mentioning it once before. The Town seems like the sort of movie I'd see if someone asked me to tag along. The word-of-mouth sounds positive and all but I'm not rushing to see it. Going the Distance: I'd say "I'm not going to judge you" but we all know that means I'm secretly judging you. In all seriousness though, the reviews are surprisingly mixed. Plus, it's good to know we're keeping a detailed record of Drew Barrymore's love life for future generations. In the near future I'll be seeing The Social Network which looks surprisingly good and Let Me In which should be (at the very least) a neat curiosity. I'm not sure there's much more (that I'm aware of) in the month of October.

I have to say, the only new stuff coming out in the near future that I'm really curious about is Let Me In. I really, really love the original, Let the Right One In, so I'm cautiously looking forward to see the American remake. I just hope they don't screw it up.
Something that some of the fellow film geeks here may know about is small indie flicks. This weekend I moved across town (Tulsa) and I'm very close to a small old theater that has been rejuvenated and shows tons of little known indie films. I'm not very knowledgeable about these kinds of films. They don't usually get much coverage or "buzz", but it's the kind of place that I can trust to make solid selections on what they are showing. If any of you guys have a good source for that stuff I would love to check it out. I think I'm going to become a regular at the Circle Cinema. They are currently showing a Phil Spector doc and a series on the short films in this year's Manhattan Film Festival.
They also show classics. For example, this weekend while I was moving they had a screening of one of my all time favorites, Seven Samurai. While I do own the Criterion version of it, I would have loved to see it on the big screen in a theater and experience it in a new way. I think they will do a different classic each month, next month is another Kurosawa film High and Low I think.
I usually don't know further out than about a week what they will be showing, so it is usually last minute viewing with little or no knowledge about what I'll be seeing.
Great topic Doc, looking forward to seeing some "coming attraction" news from everyone.

In preparation for a More Than One Lesson episode about Woody Allen, I will be watching Whatever Works, which I've heard is pretty lazy. Normally, I wouldn't even bother, but apparently Allen has some choice things to say about religion (as he often does), so I figured I should see it.

It should be interesting to compare Let Me In to Let the Right One In.
I've only recently familiarized myself with the art (and repertory) scene here in New York and I feel like a kid in the deep end. I'm not all too familiar with the names thrown around in art-house circles either but it's been really exciting exploring new ground. The amount of movies I'm interested in seeing far outweighs the amount of time I have.
The trailer for the Cohen's True Grit is apparently floating around the internet but I'm not sure I want to watch it. Sometimes I'll wait to see some of the bigger trailers in the theater but I'm wondering if this will be attached to anything anytime soon. What's everyone else's policy on trailers, clips, set photos, casting rumors. I know everyone's got their own line. I know this sort of thing's been discussed on the show.

I'm really looking forward to the Cohens' take on True Grit. I actually have a friend who's daughter had call backs for the role of Mattie. Apparently they had a huge national search for that role because the wanted an unknown.
I've never really cared too much about the environment that I see a trailer, I just hate the trailers that have major spoilers. If I can figure out the "twist" ending from the trailer I will probably skip the movie. There are, however, several good movies that just had huge spoilers. I can't come up with any off the top of my head, but it is one of my most hated thing about trailers. Either they show too much or they don't show anything at all and they call it a "teaser". That annoys the hell out of me too.

True, I'd much rather watch a trailer in a theater than in a small box within an even smaller box but the other reason I wait is so I don't see the trailer over and over and over to the point where I know those two seconds snippets of the movie by heart. I'm touchy, I know. That Black Swan trailer is kind of nuts, no?

Don't Look Now is my 10th favorite film of all time so I would absolutely recommend it. I will be watching Band of Outsiders soon as I just got it in the mail from Netflix. I'm on a Godard fix having just seen Vivre Se Vie and loving it as well as snatching the Criterion release my Pierrot Le Fou before it officially went out of print.

If you missed out on either of the last two Harry Potter films (or want to see 'em once more) you can catch them back to back alongside Hallows part one for just 20 dollars at a handful of AMC theaters.
That's three movies for under 7 bucks each!

I'm looking forward to 127 Hours and Harry Potter right now. I'm also dying to see True Grit (who doesn't look forward to a new Coen Brothers movie?).
Side note, was 127 Hours released? It's not playing in my area, but I thought it was out. Or is it just in limited release?
Also, I just got Splice from Netflix and Predators is at the top of my queue.

127 Hours is out here, so I'll try to see that soon. I've already got my tickets for the midnight showing of Harry Potter. Morning Glory is getting pretty good reviews, so Jen and I will probably be seeing that. On the DVD front, Centurion was just released. I was looking forward to that all year and missed it in the theater. I have seen so few movies this year. Partially as a function of it being a fairly mediocre year. But, also, I just haven't had the time. It's very frustrating.

127 Hours kind of snuck up on me.
As far as Harry Potter goes: I'm looking forward to a new movie and I'm incredibly excited to see them tackle the final book but, well, I didn't think Half Blood Prince was all that great. I'm hoping the fact that they've split the book into two films will fix some of the issues I had with how they handled that last one.
Since this thread seems to have the most to do with going to a theater I've got a question: what's the repertory scene like in Los Angeles. I'm curious if leaving New York for Los Angeles (some day) would mean leaving behind quality revival cinema. Plus, my brother's out there and seems like he could use suggestions. Is there anything similar to the meticulously scheduled Film Forum here in New York?

It looks like I'm in the same boat as bouncingbrick, Tyler, and Dr Handsome here, as I definitely plan on seeing 127 Hours and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I when I get the chance. Thanks in large part to my wife's interest in the Harry Potter series, I completed all seven books over the course of this year, so I'm especially looking forward to this installment. The trailer looks great, and by all accounts the film is a great adaptation. I can't wait to see it.

A huge development for me. A second run theater has opened up within walking distance of my home here in North Hollywood. This is great. Movies are very expensive in Los Angeles and the prospect of spending $15 to see something meant that I had to be very, very selective in what I chose to see. Now, though, I'm in a much better position to see more movies and get a better perspective on what type of movie year 2010 really was. First up: The Other Guys. Fifteen dollars? No dice. Three bucks? Sure, why not?

What about Tangled? Some promising concept art was released back when Disney gave us The Princess and the Frog but I haven't really given it much thought. I only realized it was coming out soon after seeing a commercial.
Speaking of animated films: how could I forget Sylvain Chomet's The Illusionist which judging from the trailer looks unsurprisingly fantastic. I'm not all that familiar with Jaques Tati who's unproduced screenplay the film is based on. I might just have to watch some of his movies while they're available on Netflix.

The movie scene's been all too slow as of late but the winter slate's actually looking surprisingly good.
I have yet to see: 127 Hours Black Swan
I'll certainly be seeing: True Grit The Illusionist Somewhere
And then there's these which look promising: The Chronicles of Narnia: Whatever This One's Called Tron: Legacy
So is there anything else to look out for this month?

I plan on seeing these:
True Grit The King's Speech Black Swan The Fighter
Hopefully, I can see them all before they leave theaters. It annoys me that the best films tend to all appear at once at the end of the year for the Oscars.

I know, it really is annoying when the December/January awards rush forces you to make difficult decisions. I probably made the wrong one earlier in the month seeing The Kings Speech instead of Blue Valentine while I had the chance. I'm getting the feeling that the nearby AMC (adjacent to a mall) won't be showing Blue Valentine either because it's too obscure or because of that infamous rating and The Kings Speech will no doubt be there for another week or two.
Regarding upcoming Movies:
Animal Kingdom is out on DVD which I'm incredibly excited to finally watch. I just got my disc from Netflix actually.
I don't think there will be much in the way of new releases in theaters which will give everyone a chance to see the awards season favorites they might have missed.
Sundance is happening which, of course, means extended plot descriptions of movies you won't see for another year.
